Evelyn and Slavic Folklore

My grand ambition with Evelyn had been to incorporate elements of Slavic folklore and mythology into her story Sleepy Hollow, partly because the forest in which the story is set is based upon a mix of Slovenia and the Red Forest in Ukraine. However I didn't want this element to be a blunt "Evelyn is this kind of thing" I wanted it to be part of a process where she and the forest intertwine to become one. As Evelyn spent more time within the depths of the forest she would subliminally start exhibiting more little traits of various creatures of Slavic mythology, Vila, Leschachikha and Mavkas in particular. Others around her would notice the odd charm that she suddenly developed and also the strange link to the trees the small redhead seemed to share while she still remained utterly oblivious to her transition.

Evelyn concept render on her slowly becoming a Mavka and a guardian of the forest.

As Evelyn became unable to imagine a life other than in the forests, she began to change, only subtle things that even she was unaware were happening but soon she and the forest would become one and the same.

There was little that captured Evelyn's soul and heart alike more than a simple night beneath a tree in the heart of the depths of the forest.
