Fukinsei Ka Tana

Fukinsei (不均整) is a foundational Japanese aesthetic principle within Wabi-sabi that values asymmetry, irregularity, and imperfection as natural, beautiful, and authentic, rather than seeking rigid perfection. It promotes balance through uneven, dynamic, and organic forms, commonly seen in nature, art, and interior design, embracing the beauty of the incomplete.

This is my entry for the pin-up contest, I wanted to create something fairly simplistic but with vast contrasts running throughout with the idea being to almost offset the beauty of form with function and purpose.

I was quite heavily inspired by a love of anime and manga alongside the dystopian/futuristic samurai images I stumble upon online, so I had the idea that rather than go along the more obvious path of underwear or exposure for a pin-up that I would clothe my character heavily but entirely in white and then create my offset with samurai swords. The basic concept being of an almost angelic looking presence but armed and primed with purpose.

The environment was a simple concept of a white tiled floor with a heavily emissive plane with a simple image of a setting sun that represents the Japanese influence to the work while lighting the entire scene from the front of the character.

The pose I wanted to have a simple energy to it, with her upper torso twisted along with her neck, as if you have been caught trying to sneak up on her? I used the flow of the hair to accentuate the movement.

I went quite gently with the depth of field and natural distortion create by my lensing system, I wanted the scene to be mostly in focus with a gentle distortion to aid the flow of her movement.

I hope you like it, but don't vote for it, I didn't, there are some much better entries than mine out there, vote for them like I did.
