Dissecting Genesis 9 For Cycles

During the Christmas break I wanted to test some new techniques for my characters within Blender, new ways to make them not just look realistic but to also make them feel a bit more lifelike.

Problematically most of my characters I already have pretty much where I want them but just before Christmas Daz released Pixie for Genesis 9 and I fell in love with her but for me in Blender she was less than impressive and I have no intentions to switch back to using Iray right now so she presented me with a clean slate.

From the promo images she looked far better than the figure that I downloaded with lots of little points of interest and burrs and imperfections but when I rendered her a few times those features were all gone but rather than be disappointed I decided to take a scalpel to her and rework her for the Cycles engine.

Texturing is largely a new thing for me and though I really enjoy doing it I am far from any kind of expert but having a clean buck was nice and I tested a few of my tweaks with Iray as a kind of reference point to build from.

However after a few hours making entirely new texture maps for all of her surface I am pretty pleased with my results and adding the tricks I have learned in the past year am now ecstatic with her though am sure she could still be far better.

Any constructive insights into ways to further improve her will be openly welcomed!

I was thrilled when this character came along for Gen 9 but less than overwhelmed with her textures

Comparing her from a stock perspective made her look even worse though in Blender the eyes looked far better

I remapped her face initially using the template with her but then made my own instead

Adding some freckles and others burrs was my aim, I didn't want her to be utterly flawless

Subsurface testing, that's still a new one for me but I have been keen to find a way to keep everything consistent
