The Beautifully Asymmetrical Myira

Ever since I started designing my own characters I have liked and tended to try and do something a little bit different.

When you set about designing and modelling a character the natural inclination is to attempt to make them as perfect as possible, the perfect figure, the perfect face, the perfect details everywhere and to make them the most symmetrical possible.

But real life isn't like that, real life isn't like that at all.

If I take myself for example I know that my left jawline is slightly more defined than my right, my right eye sits just slightly higher and closer to the bridge of my nose and ever since the get go, I have built little flaws and quirks into all of my characters.

Fae for example has the same jawline definitions that I do and she is intentionally slightly oversized so that if she was subjected to a BMI test she would be told that she is overweigh and/or obese when she is absolutely fine, where Evelyn is so diminutive and petite that despite being in her mid 20's she is smaller than the average 14 year old girl.

With every new character comes a new hidden quirk or flaw, Scorpio being created to be easily mistaken for a boy or Savena's oddly rough skin and disformed belly button or Isla's almost ghostly hair but a few weeks ago I decided to make a new character, a testbed character to take this secret love for the beautiful asymmetrical world and put it on open display for all to see.

But I didn't just want to make her asymmetrical I wanted to take everything way beyond the relative safety that I have enjoyed and push myself to create something that despite all their flaws was all but breathtakingly beautiful and with that, the idea for Myira was born.

I spent roughly a week drawing and sketching concepts for Myira before sculpting a few different iterations of her before tweaking a finalised version of her before tackling her skin. Whilst I quite enjoyed making her skin, it is something I probably won't repeat anytime soon but I am really quite fond of it.

Myira currently has no storyline of any kind, though I'm sure that will come, but for now I'm just happy to marvel in the beauty of asymmetry.
