Relearning Skin Textures For Photorealism

During the Christmas break I was keen to start pushing my skin textures further to get better reactivity and make them feel more realistic than before, I was pretty happy with the general look of my characters but not so much their feel.

I started by testing different levels of subsurface scatter to try and deepen them further and testing just about every different parameter that I could to try and find a golden formula as such especially as I now have my lighting pretty much exactly where I want it.

I decided to use Evelyn and Fae for this testing as I know them in and out pretty much and for me it's far quicker right now to work out how to resolve a problem when using either than trying Scorpio (though she will benefit from this)

Basically my aim was to find a sweet spot between the ultra shiny Iray skin and the often far more subtle Cycles skin tones and I believe I may have found just that spot.

Fae was the first to help find that sweet spot whilst keeping her eyes intact

Second testing got me much closer but I was wary that I might lose the penetrating effect of those purple eyes

My first test with Fae wasn't exactly thrilling result wise

Evelyn's skin really boosted in terms of depth when I applied the same settings that I found with Fae

Evelyn's skin now radiates, especially in moonlight!
