I'm not really one for themed work, Halloween, Easter or just about anything else does nothing to stir my imagination, the only exception I make is Christmas.
While I don't overly love doing these things and struggle to make them, I do think of them as a kind of gift to the people that have supported or inspired me throughout the year and this year I have two, yes two!
So Pippy was largely an accidental character, I had no real plans to make anyone new as I have a lot of work on in the first place but once I got into making her I found time to make her and like all of my characters there's part of me in her, it's why I so openly defend all my characters like they are my own children, because whether you understand or not, they are my children.
Pippy of course has inherited my first true love as part of her narrative, photography has been a huge part of my life and I quite vividly remember getting my first real camera for Christmas way back when I was maybe 13? After 30 years I still have it too, this heavy and quite clunky manual SLR, many things have come and gone but the cameras are still there as is the love for photography.
I consider myself lucky to have found things that I truly love doing, love to the point where almost nothing would dissuade me from pursuing them, whether that is photography, drawing, writing stories or just 3D modelling, I'm thankful to have found those things, even more so as all four link together quite well too.
Pippy's camera though is more than just some prop, it's functional, one has been attached to my rendering camera in Blender for about a year now, using the lens which allows the scene camera to generate natural bokeh and depth of field, it does impact render times, extending them by around 10-25 percent but thankfully my Quadro happily handles that. However it does give me something much more powerful in return for my time, but you will have to wait until the new year to see what that is.
Additionally Pippy has been helping me to tackle a minor flaw in all Gen 8.1 facial rigging, once again that for now is for me alone to know as I'm not quite ready to unveil what flaw I found, at least not until I can be certain it can be tackled effectively.
I hope that you enjoy this first Christmas render and thank you for your support during 2025 and look forward to finally unleashing what I have truly been working on in 2026.
