The Fifth Return
Every year during September I set aside anything I'm working on briefly to start building for the coming year but also during this time I revisit the starting point of my journey not only into the realms of being a 3D artist but of becoming a published author too.
Some people tell me that revisiting the same scene is pointless, as why would you want to continually remake the same scene? Well for me it's simple, firstly to test just how far I have come and grown over the last four years but most importantly, for me at least, how can you be sure of where you are going, if you don't remember where you have been?
The original was a simple scene, made with what I had to hand at the time and what few skills I had learned in the few months that I had been toying with 3D software, each year the scene has become more involved and lavished with the fruits of my labour and my deep love for the worlds I created.
This year marks the fifth time I have returned to remake and reimagine this scene that gave birth to an entire world and then a universe all of my own making, although this years return is tinged with sadness as I have taken the decision to actively remove Evelyn from my active character line-up.
Although this decision has hit me quite hard, as I never dreamed that I would be sidelining my first character so willingly, although I was aware that this day would come when Scorpio and the concept behind her world first arrived and pre-warned that all characters no matter how special have a timeline and that there is a point where all stars end.
However, I take solace in the fact that I have removed Evelyn to both protect and preserve her as she is rather than allowing her to become little more than a fragmented shadow of what once was.
With that in mind, this will never be the final time I will revisit this first scene but this will be the only time each year from here on that you will see Evelyn actively used.
