A Little Naughtiness
A few weeks ago one of the images for The Promise was banned from the Daz galleries, not because it was violent, or featured anything gratuitous nor indecent but because someone took offence at a little subliminal joke buried within the image.
This is a link to the said image should you be curious to know https://www.deviantart.com/peterpixyharrison/art/The-Promise-Chapter-3-Buffering-957780205 (be careful it may be more dangerous than you know!)
The joke was based on the old seaside postcards, you know those naughty but nice old world pictures featuring men and women making fools of themselves?
I’m accustomed to having images banned normally because of violence or walking a fine contextual line. However an image that above all else is designed to be fun was a new one on me and it got me thinking 🤔
Have people forgotten life should be fun?
The world seems so obsessed with being, controversial, enraged, disgusted, divided and outraged that for some it’s even their sole aim and means of promotion or even purpose, to alienate, invoke, provoke and divide purely for the means of selling their lost lies.
Indeed in groups, sites and forums within the 3D world I am confronted continually by "Artists" calling for the direct ban or filtration of AI as a medium, in truth I am no lover of AI and yet the sole thing within it that I take satisfaction in, is that at bare minimum it can be used by those whom do not have the means to furnish their homes with the lush machinery that so many 3D Artists are so quick to tell one and all that they own, nor even something as mediocre as the computer that inhabits my home.
To me denying an entire medium as a choice for others to express themselves and find their voice is little different to taking donated pencils and paper from a child, whether I like AI or not, never would I or even could I ask to take away the means by which some chose to find their way to show the world what or who they truly are, which for me is so incredibly sad.
What I find worst though is that somewhere along the way it seems and feels like most people have forgotten how to have fun? Like everyone else I started and became entangled into the 3D world not because I believed it was my right nor that it could take me somewhere but because for all the frustrations and heartache those images ever cost me, at the bottom of it all, it was quite a lot of intoxicating fun. Sharing those first awful renders to have a few likes or even the odd comment was thrilling and drove me to dive deeper in and even to this day, the first thing that I feel when I hit F12 in blender is just how much fun the journey to that moment has been and even if the outcome is less than I had hoped, I lust for that moment to start all over again.
So from the carnage an idea struck me, to make a few scenes based on the old seaside postcards.
Just a few humble images filled with that old world innocently naughty tongue in cheek fun.
Having put more thought into these images, I’m thinking of going with a innocent, sultry but adorable theme.
Sort of a blend of Betty Boop, Marilyn Monroe with a Polynesian/Hula dancer vibe. In my head there’s a 40’s/50’s brassy and bassy number playing in the distance. A foot-tapping and butt slapping kinda feel to the deal.
I have opted to use Rowena for this series of images, after all can you really be outraged by a girl that’s all of four inches tall?
